What Product Add-Ons does

Sell what the customer actually wants: an engraving, a gift box, a rush fee, a size, their logo. Product Add-Ons puts extra fields on the product page, charges for them, and carries the answers through the cart, the checkout, the order, the emails and the order editor.

Product Add-Ons features

Field types

  • Short text and long text, optionally priced per character
  • Number, optionally priced × the number entered
  • Dropdown, radio buttons and checkboxes, each option with its own price
  • File upload, with allowed types and a size limit
  • Headings with a description, to split a long form into sections

Pricing

  • Each field or option can charge once per cart line, per product quantity, or a percentage of the product price
  • Negative amounts give a discount
  • A live "Options" and "Total" line under the fields updates as the customer chooses, including for variable products
  • Works on top of sale prices, wholesale prices and quantity discounts

Rules

  • Required fields, min and max characters, min and max values, min and max selections
  • Show a field only when another field has a chosen option, for example a "Rush note" that appears when "Rush" is picked
  • Default values and placeholders

Where fields apply

  • Groups of fields for all products, products in chosen categories, or chosen products, with products you want to leave out
  • Fields for one product only, on its edit screen, with a switch to skip the global groups there
  • Several groups on one product, in the order you set

Everything else

  • Choices are listed under the item in the cart, the mini cart, the checkout, the order, the emails and My Account, with their prices
  • Works with the block cart and checkout and with the classic shortcodes
  • Order again brings the same choices back
  • Uploaded files are stored with random names outside the media library, and staff get a link in the order editor
  • Grid buttons for products with add-ons say "Select options" and open the product page
  • Import and export groups as JSON
  • Hooks: pado_product_groups, pado_unit_price, pado_product_types

Questions about Product Add-Ons

How is the price of an option charged?

Pick "Per product quantity" to multiply by the quantity, "Once per cart line" for a fixed amount however many are bought, or "% of the product price". Text fields can also charge per character, and number fields × the number entered.

Can a customer add a product with required add-ons from the shop grid?

No. The grid button becomes "Select options" and opens the product page. Products whose add-ons are all optional can still be added from grids, without add-ons.

Where do uploaded files go?

Into wp-content/uploads/pado/, renamed to a random name, so they cannot be guessed. Only the types you allow are accepted, and files are checked by content, not just by name. Staff see a link on the order; customers see the file name.

Do add-ons work with variable products?

Yes. The fields apply to every variation, and the live total uses the chosen variation's price.

How do I show a field only in some cases?

In the field's "Show only when" setting, pick another field in the same group and one of its options. Hidden fields are not required and are not charged.

What happens on uninstall?

Groups, per-product fields and uploads are kept unless "Delete all data" is ticked under Products > Add-Ons > Settings.
